I could not start this monthly summary without talk about the Nokia and Microsoft yesterday annoucement. I’m a big fun of Nokia and used to use Nokia cell phones for many years, in December of 2006 when I move to Scotts Valley I was forced to change for Samsung, few reasons: Nokia was not very strong in US still not strong here, at this time I was looking for a Smart Phone and Samsung Black Jack was the best option, after that came iPhone and everybody knows iPhone is iPhone.

Today I saw the first image you’ll see anywhere of the early fruit of Microsoft and Nokia’s budding new partnership, in terms of designer I really like. The shape of these handsets is somewhere between its recent N8 and C7 Symbian devices and there is, as usual for Nokia, a choice of sprightly colors.

We should not go jumping to conclusions about hardware, how WP7 will work, etc. for sure the engineers from both companies are working to bring the best experience and of course are looking very close what iPhone and Android phones are doing.

Will see if Nokia and Windows Phone 7 will convince me to switch back to Nokia – You can read the official press release here.

• We just announced the Delphi XE and C++Builder XE Starter Edition
• Right now I’m in Houston airport waiting my flight to Brazil for the Delphi Meeting 2011, the event will happen in 12 cities and we will train Delphi Developers in Delphi XE, multi-tier development with DataSnap XE and Mono/Monotouch development with Delphi Prism.
• The past 2 days I was in Vegas attending the DSConf, the event was really good and our partner RemObjects demonstrated the first preview of Delphi Prism support for Windows Phone 7 and MonoDroid, also the first preview of Project Cooper, a Java compiler for Object Pascal code.

• Microsoft is trying to catch up Apple TV and Google TV, look likes today at CES they will announce the Windows TV. I personally don’t think the users want to have their computer on the TV, why I will watch regular programs through internet if I can have much better quality using my regular HD TV, for movies this is a good approach, but the successful experience on this space is Netflix and have been replicated around the world. I’m Netflix customer and I love, I can watch movies through Internet using my PS3 as my Netflix client, so far the best solution in my opinion.
• A new conference for Delphi Developers is coming “Developer Solution Conference”, it is happening at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on February 8-10, 2011. The conference will focus on cross-platform database-driven business solutions, with a special emphasis on mobile clients. The conference are organized by Rem Objects and Developer Experts and has Embarcadero as Premium Sponsor.

  2. Larry Announcing The Exalogic Elastic Cloud a very impressive box for Private Cloud, system containing 30 servers, each loaded with two six-core processors for a total of 360 processor cores.

• Now Chrome is my default browser on Mac and Windows, the unique reason I still using Firefox on Windows it’s because of the Firebug plugin
