Using Google, Apple, or Microsoft you will still need a DVR box.

I have DirectTV and I’m fine with that, where I live you have to have cable or satellite. As you mention you use Netflix through your computer, so you don’t have to buy a console, and this is the great think.

So far what I saw from Google TV is a web browser broadcasting through a browser some channel and very bad resolution, requesting you to have another keyboard and another box, they think the users will stay in front of TV doing navigating in a web browser, and I don’t think so, the user only wanna watch movies, documentary, etc.. what netflix provide.

You could go even more high-tech and use a Time-Delay unit to detect ad breaks etc. and cut the recording to eliminate them.

In a computer age, going back to the TV is devolution, in my opinion.

Why? For 1, I don’t have any console gaming systems, and I don’t want any.

So the best way for me to watch Netflix is to hook up my laptop via s-video (it’s old) to my HDTV…but I get only standard quality, which is annoying.

I’d love something like this, but I’m waiting for Tivo-like functionality without a subscription. Or at least the ability to easily mod it for that support.

That’s the only reason I haven’t bought an AppleTV yet.
